St. Andrews & Edinburgh universities saw off tough competition this week to finish first and second in the Northern University Championships Saturday saw St Andrews University take their first ever Northern University Championships title. The competition saw them beating previous winners & last years BUSC silver medallists Nottingham, as well as previous BUSC winners Sheffield Hallam. St Andrews' Andrew Hall also took the MVP award for the competition. Edinburgh university fought hard for second place, with the Scotland based universities dominating the top spots for the first time in many years. This means the teams will now be well placed in the draw for the BUSC finals in April. Both University teams have improved dramatically ove the past few seasons, St Andrews have won the Scotland Premier league for the past 2 seasons &, because of this, have competed in the Euopa Cup Korfball competition, competing against the top clubs from across Europe. Both teams contain International Senior squad members who have returned from the recent Eurobowl competition, with Edinburgh's Naomi Reid finishing as female top scorer for the tournament, & this has brought much experience back into the local league. All eyes will now be on the Scottish teams in the approach to the BUSC finals. |
